Medical Uses – Treatment for Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is caused by breast tumors and some of these tumors need hormones to grow. By blocking the hormones that fuel the tumors, medical treatment can stop or slow the growth of the tumor. If the tumor is cancerous then it will block the growth of this cancer as well.

There are different types of breast cancer, one of which is a hormone-receptive positive cancer. This type of cancer can be treated with steroids because, as we know about how steroids work, they fill in the hormone receptors and promote tissue growth. By blocking the estrogen and progestin that can fill these receptors, the tissue growth can be blocked.

There are medications available to block the production of these hormones, but they sometimes require small, regular doses of steroids to counteract their side effects. This is how steroids are sometimes used to treat some types of breast cancer.
