Men and Steroids – Getting Around the Law

Even though steroids are illegal in the United States, people who want to use them find ways to both obtain them and also find out how to use them safely. Another issue with steroid use for competitive athletes is how they manage to pass the mandatory drug tests often imposed by the sports’ organization. Most sports organizations do not allow the use of anabolic steroids and equate their use to cheating.

As the law stands, the only way to legally buy steroids in the United States right now is with a prescription from a physician – and the prescribed doses are often much lower than people use for performance enhancement. One way that people get around the steroid laws is to go out of the country to get steroids – a popular destination for Americans is to go to Mexico to get their steroids. There are also sources on the Internet for mail-order purchase of steroids. This is a risky business, however, because the steroids purchased this way are not regulated, so they may not be sanitary, they may not be dosed correctly, they may be diluted or they may not even be a steroid at all. There are also people who choose to sell steroids outright, but illegally. The law looks at these people as any drug pusher is seen, so this is also a risky business and many steroid sellers have seen jail time due to their actions.

Finding anabolic steroid information is also difficult. People cannot go to their physicians and get information about the drugs. They cannot even go to their physicians for regular blood work to make sure that they are not experiencing higher than normal side effects. The laws prohibit use the steroids, and that also limits the amount of research that goes into the proper uses and the truth about both short and long term side effects. Because of this, most people get information about steroid use from anecdotes and non-scientific studies. They get their information based on personal experience and hearsay, which is not always the most accurate information available.

The biggest problem with trying to get around steroid law is that there is federal law, but most states have their own laws so possessing anabolic steroid without a prescription in one state commends a different consequence than in another state. Additionally, the amount of steroids possessed gives different consequences and these amounts also vary from state to state.
