Men and Steroids – Use vs. Abuse

All drugs can be used and abused and the same is true with steroids. According to the law, there are legitimate, approved medical uses of steroids and other, non-legal uses of steroids are often considered abuse by most people. While people who use steroids illegally might be abusing them, this is not necessarily the case.

Approved medical uses include treatment for delayed puberty, impotence, chronic wasting, anemia and osteoporosis. People using steroids for these reasons do so in limited quantities, often small doses and under direct supervision of a medical professional.

Advocates of steroids use for athletic advancement compare using steroids to using painkillers and even junk food. All of these items can be used in moderation and but if they are overused or used obsessively it can be considered misuse or even abuse.

Advocates of steroids also know that steroid use is very common in athletes and that most of them use the drugs on controlled manners that help give them the biggest gains with the fewest side effects. Since steroids are illegal, however, obtaining this information can be difficult. Those who cannot find the information to help them take steroids in the right manner might end up misusing and eventually sometimes even abusing the drugs. Also, often times when young people start using steroids they have not done the proper research and don’t know what to expect in terms of side effects as well as how to fend off the side effects the best they can and what could start as use of a drug quickly turns into misuse and eventually abuse. This is especially true for people who are not yet physically and emotionally mature enough to handle the side effects that come along with this use.

Other considerations for steroid use versus steroid abuse is that steroid use and abuse can cause seriously health problems and anyone who wants to use steroids needs to take that into consideration. That said, the best way to ensure the least side effects is the knowledge to use the best fit steroid for the situation as well as the ability to have regular blood work to make sure the steroids are not causing serious liver damage as well as to keep the suppression of natural hormone production in check.

Those who are not able to regulate doses and regimens to keep the negative side effects in check are also known to be likely to seek out other drugs to help alleviate these negative side effects. The use of these other drugs can also lead to dependency on them as well.

Speaking of dependency, it’s no wonder that people can become addicted to steroids. If you’ve been using steroids for several weeks and notice a great difference in both strength and appearance then it’s quite easy to see why people would want to continue using them. Even if they are not physically addicting, the psychological effects of taking the drugs can be very stimulating and addicting.
